Consultation for Mental Health Professionals

Clinical work with complex presentations can raise challenging questions about diagnosis, formulation, treatment planning, risk, and the therapeutic relationship itself. Consultation provides a space for clinicians to think more deeply about these questions within a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic framework.

I offer consultation to psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counsellors, and other licensed mental health professionals seeking support with complex clinical cases.

The focus is not simply on diagnosis, but on developing a coherent understanding of the patient's psychological functioning, developmental history, relational patterns, defences, and personality organization.

Areas of Consultation

Consultation may be helpful when working with presentations involving:

  • Personality organization and personality pathology

  • Borderline, narcissistic, schizoid, and other personality structures

  • Complex trauma

  • Mood and affective disorders

  • Psychotic processes and psychotic structure

  • Diagnostic uncertainty

  • Risk assessment and clinical decision-making

  • Challenging transference and countertransference dynamics

  • Treatment planning and therapeutic impasses

  • Questions regarding treatment modality and sequencing

The goal is to develop a formulation that supports thoughtful and effective clinical work while remaining responsive to the realities of the therapeutic relationship.

Consultation Services

Consultation may include:

  • Written case formulation

  • Live case discussion

  • Diagnostic clarification

  • Risk assessment

  • Treatment recommendations

  • Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic formulation

  • Clinical guidance regarding treatment planning

  • Consultation on complex relational dynamics within treatment

Each consultation is tailored to the specific clinical questions and challenges being presented.

A Formulation-Based Approach

Psychoanalytic consultation seeks to understand how symptoms, personality structure, developmental history, and relational patterns fit together within a larger psychological picture.

Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction or diagnostic categories, consultation explores the underlying organization of the patient's difficulties and the meaning those difficulties may hold within their broader psychological life.

This approach can provide greater clarity when working with complex presentations that do not fit neatly within standard diagnostic frameworks.

Available In-Person or by Secure Telehealth

Clinical consultation is available to licensed mental health professionals in person or through secure telehealth.

Whether you are seeking support with diagnostic questions, treatment planning, risk assessment, or complex psychodynamic formulation, consultation can provide an opportunity for collaborative clinical thinking and deeper understanding.

If you are a licensed clinician seeking consultation regarding a complex case, Daffodil Psychology welcomes you to get in touch to discuss your needs.
